Investing in yourself and your business!

A conference is more than just about spending money or getting away or traveling to a different location. It's about investing in your business, but personally, I think it's more about investing in yourself. For most, I think that they attend a conference in hopes that it will improve their business acumen or teach them a new technique, but for me, it's really about making connections. In the photography world, especially in our local world, it is sometimes difficult to meet like minded individuals who do not think you are competition. I love meeting new people and whether they are admirers or want to learn from me, I enjoy every interaction. These past few years, I have been lucky enough to be invited to speak or teach at a couple of conferences and it really just humbles me that people would want to learn from someone in little old Lubbock, TX. I appreciate that I am acknowledged throughout the industry as someone to learn from. So, in other words, get yourself to a conference! Even better, go with a couple of friends, but try not to hangout with just your friends; make those connections, interact with the instructors and put yourself out there. You never know where that path might lead you.
