A lot of photographers ask me why I use flash outdoors when there's plenty of sunlight. The simple answer: control. Flash lets me control the look and feel of my images, especially when I want to darken the background or make the subject pop. Even just a touch of light can make your photos look more professional. Do you want to stand out from your competition? You need to add Off Camera Flash to your tool set. It can be daunting and overwhelming at first, but once you learn the control, it will set your work apart from the crowd! Here are some examples of what you can do outdoors during the brightest times of the day!

No Open Shade
Shot at 4:14 in the hot afternoon of summer. No open shade, just directly in the sun. But, I placed her face to where the sun was opposite and used my OCF to evenly light her body. Because it was so bright, the light is just outside of frame.
