Lifestyle photo series of someone in a rustic burnt orange dress and brown hat posing in a sunlit autumn forest setting.

I will usually tell the model, “Feet Apart a little wider than your shoulders and now pop the hip!” This pose really showcases a lot of confidence!

The Power Pose
A person in a white dress sits playfully on concrete steps during a portrait photoshoot with natural golden lighting.

Have the model sit down and have them spread their feet apart and bring their knees together. You can have them cross their arms like the example here or have them rest their elbows on their knees and rest their chin in their hands. This pose has a “little girl” feel and Mom's love it!

Feet Apart, Knees Together
A woman in a floral dress sits gracefully in a sunlit meadow with soft bokeh and natural lighting.

Have the model sit on the ground and then place most of their weight on their hip. I like to have them extend their legs a bit, but keep a little bend in the knees. This helps extend their lines and keeps them from looking short. Bonus Tip: Have them engage their core, so their shoulder muscle doesn't flex so much making it look weird.
