Taking your own head shot...

Taking your own headshot is not an easy task. It requires a tripod, a way to focus and the ability to remotely trigger your camera. This can be a little cumbersome and overwhelming, but in the end, I think it's worth all of the work. For my headshots, I use Capture One software which allows me to tether with a live view and the ability to remotely trigger my camera. I setup my camera to have a two second delay to allow me to get in a pose or expression. There are a couple of reasons that I do my own headshots; first, I am able to be as goofy as I want without anyone seeing it, and two it allows me to understand how my clients feel when they are in front of my camera. So, basically a win win. I think it's important as well, to try different lighting patterns to see what works best without having to hold a client up while I am testing. Practicing makes every situation a little easier. You will notice here that I tried three different lighting scenarios and I did concentrate a little more on "male" lighting with a little bit more shadow work. I also loved the "bad ass" poses but I will most likely reserve them for my personal page! In the end, I used three lights for all of these shots; two rim lights, and a key light in varying positions and finally a Cheetahstand Bowflector to help lift the shadows under my chin. Also, I probably edited a lot of stuff off my face, but you know what; it's my damn headshot, I will do what I want to do! ;) Feel free to let me know which one you like best!
